La Paz City Guide

La Paz is the capital city of Baja California Sur and is full of historic colonial architecture and modern amenities. Overlooking the stunning desert landscapes and brilliant blues of the Sea of Cortez, La Paz is located approximately 98 miles from Cabo San Lucas and has its own international airport. The area boasts a rich history, with the cultural heritage of the original indigenous tribes, as well as Spanish missionaries and explorers all having shaped the area’s identity. Today, the natural beauty and authentic atmosphere of La Paz draws travelers who enjoy strolling the malecón, scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking amidst offshore islands and exploring the area’s history. La Paz also offers outstanding fishing with seasonal abundance of marlin, tuna, dorado (mahi-mahi), wahoo and roosterfish.

About 45 minutes of La Paz, you’ll find the Bay of Dreams (Bahia de los Sueños). This peaceful bay is the ideal spot for those looking for a tranquil pace and immaculate beaches. A few luxury villa rentals are situated along the golden sands. The area’s local fishermen head out in panga boats each day to make their livelihood from the sea.
